Grade Calculator
Free grade calculator: enter up to three assignment grades with their weights to get your weighted average percent and letter grade in one click.
About this tool
Not all assignments count equally: a final exam worth 40% of your grade matters far more than a quiz worth 10%. A grade calculator weights each score properly, so you see your true standing instead of a misleading simple average.
This is the tool to open before finals week. Enter your current scores and weights, then experiment: what happens if you score 85 on the final? What do you need on it to keep your A? Students who run these scenarios study with a target instead of anxiety.
How to use
Enter up to three grades as percentages, with each one's weight (also as a percent - the three weights should add to 100, though the tool handles any total). Press Calculate Grade.
You get the weighted average percentage and the matching letter grade instantly. Leave a weight at 0 for categories that do not apply, or combine several small assignments into one line by averaging them first.
The math behind it
Weighted average = (grade1 x weight1 + grade2 x weight2 + grade3 x weight3) / (weight1 + weight2 + weight3). Letter grades use the standard scale: A 90+, B 80+, C 70+, D 60+, F below 60.
A simple average would treat a 10% homework and a 40% exam as equals - weighting fixes that, which is why a bad quiz barely dents a grade built on a strong exam.
