Barcode Generator

Free barcode generator. Enter any text or numbers to create a scannable Code 128 barcode instantly, then download it as a crisp SVG. No signup needed.

About this tool

A barcode generator turns any text or numbers into a scannable barcode image. Shops, warehouses, libraries and small businesses use barcodes to track products, label shelves and speed up checkouts. Instead of buying special software, you can create one right here in seconds.

Our free tool uses the Code 128 standard, the most widely supported barcode format in the world. It works with almost every handheld scanner and phone scanning app. Everything runs entirely in your browser, so the text you enter never leaves your device.

How to use

Type the text or numbers you want encoded into the input box. Short codes work best, but Code 128 can handle letters, numbers and common symbols. Click the Generate Barcode button and your barcode appears instantly below.

The barcode is drawn as a crisp SVG image, which means it stays sharp at any size. Click Download SVG to save it, then print it or drop it into your labels, packaging or documents. Test-scan it with your phone camera before printing a large batch.

The math behind it

Code 128 encodes each character as a pattern of dark bars and light spaces of varying widths. A start symbol tells the scanner which character set is used, then every character becomes an 11-module pattern, and a check digit at the end lets the scanner verify it read the code correctly.

Because the mapping from characters to bar patterns is fixed by the standard, any compliant scanner in the world can read a Code 128 barcode. That is why one simple web tool can produce barcodes that work everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Code 128 barcode?
Code 128 is a high-density barcode standard that can encode all 128 ASCII characters, including letters, numbers and symbols. It is the default choice for shipping, logistics and retail because almost every scanner ever made can read it. Our generator produces Code 128 barcodes, so yours will work with standard equipment.
Will my barcode scan with a phone camera?
Yes. Modern phones can scan Code 128 barcodes with the built-in camera app or any free scanner app. Print the barcode at a reasonable size, at least 3 cm wide, on a light background with good contrast, and it should scan on the first try. Always test one print before producing hundreds.
Can I use the generated barcodes commercially?
Yes. Barcodes you create with this tool are yours to use on products, packaging, tickets or labels, including for business purposes. One thing to know: retail products sold in major stores usually need an officially registered GTIN number, which this tool does not provide. For internal tracking, assets and small shops, these barcodes are perfect.
