Password Generator

Free password generator. Create strong, random passwords with uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols using secure crypto randomness. Instant, no signup.

About this tool

Weak and reused passwords are the number one reason accounts get hacked. A password generator creates long, random passwords that no human could guess and no attacker could crack in a reasonable time. It is the simplest upgrade you can make to your online security.

This tool builds every password with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same kind of randomness operating systems use for security keys. Nothing is sent to any server, nothing is stored, and each password is generated fresh on your device the moment you click the button.

How to use

Enter how long you want the password to be. Sixteen characters is a great default for most accounts. Then choose which character types to include: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. More types mean a stronger password.

Click Generate Password and your new password appears instantly. Use the Copy Password button to copy it straight into a password manager or a signup form. Generate a fresh one for every important account and never reuse passwords across sites.

The math behind it

Password strength comes from entropy, which is just a measure of how many guesses an attacker would need. Each random character multiplies the possibilities. A 16-character password drawn from 90 possible characters has 90^16 combinations, far beyond what any computer can brute-force.

The key word is random. Human-chosen passwords follow patterns, but this tool picks every character with crypto.getRandomValues, which produces unpredictable numbers suitable for security purposes. That unpredictability is what makes the result genuinely strong.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate passwords in a browser?
Yes, with this tool. The password is created locally on your device using the Web Crypto API, and it is never transmitted over the network or stored anywhere. The only copy exists on your screen. For best practice, save it in a reputable password manager rather than in a notes file or email.
How long should my password be?
Longer is always better. Twelve characters is a reasonable minimum, sixteen is excellent for important accounts like email and banking, and twenty or more is ideal for anything you rarely type by hand. Since a password manager remembers them for you, there is no reason to keep passwords short.
Should I include symbols in my password?
Symbols expand the character set, which increases strength for the same length. However, some older websites reject certain symbols. If a site refuses your generated password, regenerate with symbols turned off and a slightly longer length. Length matters more than symbol variety, so a 20-character letters-and-numbers password is still very strong.
