Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your take-home pay with our free paycheck calculator. Enter gross pay, tax rates and deductions to see your net pay per period and per year.

About this tool

Your salary number and your actual paycheck are two different things. Our free paycheck calculator estimates your take-home pay after federal tax, state tax, and other deductions like retirement or insurance.

Pick your pay period, enter your gross pay and tax rates, and see your net pay per check plus the annual total. Useful when comparing job offers.

How to use

Enter your gross pay for one pay period - the amount before any deductions. Select how often you are paid: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or annual.

Enter your federal and state tax rates as percentages, plus any other flat deductions per period (like 401k or health premiums). Press Calculate Paycheck for your estimated net pay.

The math behind it

The calculator subtracts a flat percentage for federal and state taxes plus your fixed deductions: Net = Gross - (Gross x Fed% / 100) - (Gross x State% / 100) - Other. Annual net multiplies the per-period net by the number of pay periods per year.

Real tax systems are progressive (brackets), not flat, so treat this as a planning estimate. Your actual withholding depends on W-4 settings, pre-tax deductions, and your state's brackets.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this only an estimate?
Real income tax uses brackets - different chunks of income are taxed at different rates - while this tool applies one flat rate for simplicity. It also cannot know your filing status, pre-tax deductions, local taxes, or credits. For an exact figure, use your country's official withholding calculator or ask payroll. This tool is best for quick comparisons and budgeting.
What counts as other deductions?
Anything taken from your check that is not income tax: retirement contributions (401k), health/dental/vision premiums, life insurance, union dues, or wage garnishments. Add them as a single flat dollar amount per pay period. If a deduction is pre-tax, the simple version here slightly overstates your tax - acceptable for an estimate.
How do I compare two job offers with this?
Run each offer through the calculator using its own gross pay, period, and benefits deductions, then compare the annual net figures. Do not forget non-cash differences: a lower salary with free health insurance or a 401k match can beat a higher salary. Also factor in commute costs and cost of living if one job requires moving.
